Default P-47 Thunderbolt Brotherhood (All P-47s Welcome)

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was largest, heaviest, and most expensive fighter aircraft in history to be powered by a single piston engine. It was heavily armed with eight .50-caliber machine guns, four per wing. When fully loaded, the P-47 weighed up to eight tons, and in the fighter-bomber ground-attack roles could carry five-inch rockets or a significant bomb load of 2,500 pounds; it could carry over half the payload of the B-17 bomber on long-range missions (although the B-17 had a far greater range).

The P-47, based on the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, was to be very effective as a short-to-medium range escort fighter in high-altitude air-to-air combat and, when unleashed as a fighter-bomber, proved especially adept at ground attack in both the World War II European and Pacific Theaters. The P-47 was one of the main United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) fighters of World War II, and served with other Allied air forces, notably those of France, Britain, and Russia. Mexican and Brazilian squadrons fighting alongside the U.S. were equipped with the P-47.The armored cockpit was roomy inside, comfortable for the pilot, and offered good visibility. A modern-day U.S. ground-attack aircraft, the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, takes its name from the P-47.

I have always had a true love and admiration for this plane and wanted to start a group for others who feel the same. Everything from small electrics to big gassers, including arfs, kits, scratch builds. Membership to belong to the Brotherhood is free. Please post your builds, comments, questions and pictures in this thread.

To join PM me or e-mail me at [email protected]; with your RCU handle and you will be assigned a number and the list will be updated and posted regularly.

*** NOTE *** The P-47 Thunderbolt Brotherhood is also open to female jug pilots; if you are out there you are very welcome to join our ranks!

Welcome Aboard!

Guys I have updated the membership list; I signed you up in order of contact either by time of your e-mail to me or by time of post you left.
I am glad to see more P-47 enthusiasts! I will be working on a logo for the P-47 Thunderbolt Brotherhood over the holidays and will let everyone
know when that is finished.

Here is my new Comp-arf P-47 that i have just finished as of last night. In the future after it has had some flying time on it i will keep adding more details to it. Here are just a few pictures of the plane as i had a friend who is an artist hand paint the nose art onto it last night. It was a 12 hour process to get it completed.

Love my P-47's. They fly great! really nice planes. I have 2.
First is the Robart built P47 composite airframe designed around the Zirolli P47. This is flagship of the fleet, a few features:
3W80 for power
26X10 prop (Biela or Xoar work best)
Robart Gear
Custom operational cowl flaps (open at idle, closed at full throttle)
Operational inner and tail gear doors
plug in wings
Second is the go to airplane for me. It's the Top Flite P47 ARF Tar Heel Hal. DLE 55 for power, robart gear. Easy to build, fly, and land. Highly recommend to anyone as a first giant scale warbird.
Sign me up for the brotherhood!

I have one of the older Hangar9 81" P47 that I am starting on. To me the P47 was the best warbird made. Its big and powerful with a lot of forepower. As soon as I start the build I will post pics. Thats if I can become a member of the brotherhood?
