Need a new Spektrum receiver
I have had good luck with the Spektrum AR 6210 in the past but unfortunately they are no longer available. What would be a good alternative without all the bells and whistles?

personally i love my dx4s and it has enough channels to do pretty much anything ground based short of intricate robotic applications and is really easy to use. Range is better than the range of my eyes

AR6600T is basically an AR6210 with telemetry integrated.

The AR610 has an amplified antenna instead of a remote receiver. It really depends on the aircraft - a larger model you would want the remote receiver, a smaller one would be fine with just the amplified one.
In my planes I'm using an AR636 (no AS3X) with a remote receiver. That's gives the best of all worlds.

the AR610 will be fine for airplanes under 48 inch. I have one in a avistar elite, and it works perfectly fine. Now, the ar660t doesn't come with a satelite, but I heard that you are better off using one for that rx. Is this true?

It's true it doesn't come with a satellite. None of our receivers do. Satellites are in outer space.
But many come with remote receivers. Just not this one.
It's also true that the AR6600T supports a remote receiver.
Whether or not you should be using one depends on the aircraft.

Andy,
An excerpt from one of the reviews of the AR6600 on the Horizon web site states: "There are issues with non digital servos because you cannot run this Rx at 22ms due to software bug."
I don't know what this means, but it does concern me. I do want to get some of these receivers, but I want them to serve my purpose.
