Default Barrel length IR vs Airsoft question...

Does anyone know if the IR barrels that mount on a Henglong type recoil are longer than the airsoft barrels that mount on an airsoft unit?

The reason I'm asking is because I am trying to upgrade an IR Taigen KV-1 that currently has a Henglong recoil with a Clark universal recoil. Last week I had the turret apart for rewiring it to work with a TK22 and the barrel seemed to insert a great distance into the Henglong recoil. The Clark recoil does not look as if it has a deep enough recess to accommodate the length.

They should be no longer than 6 millimeters to the end of the lead.

So does it have a Heng long or clark recoil? Confused by your post. My guess would be the mounting point on the clark recoil vs the heng long is different so the barrels would be different lengths to have the same amount of exposed barrel out the mantlet?

I have assembled a Clark recoil. I need to transfer my existing barrel from a Henglong ir recoil unit to the Clark. At a glance it does not look as if the Clark recoil does not have a deep enough pocket to give the proper length of exposed barrel from the gun mantle. I do not have any airsoft tanks and I was wondering if the physical length of an airsoft tank barrel is shorter than an IR tank barrel.

Got ya. Not sure if the airsoft vs IR Heng long barrels are different lengths. Guessing someone will post up soon with info though. So where you are now, the barrel is too long out of the mantlet cause it's not seated in the clark recoil as much? If so, you could cut down the back of the barrel.

I'm beginning to think that Clark designed the universal recoil unit to be used with an airsoft barrel. Can someone give me the length of the KV-1 airsoft barrel?
I also have a Panzer iv, Porsche King Tiger, Panther G and a Jagdpanther that I would like to upgrade and none of them are airsoft. Wonder if I will have the same issue with them.

Could also depend on where the unit is regarding cycle. Are both at full extension or full recoil?

Both are with barrel at full extension. If you look at this barrel it looks different.

If that is an airsoft barrel all I would need to is repaint it to match.

I like the way the Clark recoil works. So I have three choices. Buy four more Clark units and buy new barrels and repaint to match or cut my existing barrels to the proper length. Or I could modify my existing Henglong recoils to operate in reverse so the spring snaps it back and the noisey motor returns the barrel to battery.

If you have the means and time I'd cut barrels to length and go with the clark system since you like the action better. From the sounds of it, you'll be happier down the road.

Do you know what type of metal the barrels are made of? Aluminum would be nice but I wouldn't be surprised they are some type of brittle pot metal.
