The madness begins! I'll also post pictures here as it progresses but it will be video heavy.

Couple pictures from the Assembly.
Strut door too long. Was rubbing on the 3D printed piece. Had to trim about 1/4" off of the door.
Trying to figure out the best location for a smoke tank on this plane. It's covered in detail in the video but initially thinking of adding a Carf Flash Fuse tank in front of the F-18 Fuel System. Well in front of the CG point. HMMMM.

Great videos, thanks.
Can anyone tell the benefits of center installation of the twin turbines? bigger turbine with tail pipes, it seems that the smaller turbines at the tail makes more sense.
From the video I see that the turbines are installed on rails for easy access, that can be done also with the tail installation i guess.

I could be wrong but I don't believe they do the turbines at the tail option any more. If they did the owner of this aircraft would have got it that way again I believe. I think the plane will come out lighter with the mid turbine option.

First one went in last year. Elevator Servo issue. One of the elevator servos stuck deflected about 6 min into flight. It was a SAD DAY.

From one video builder to another, welcome and good luck with this one, mine is still sitting on the table after years. Im waiting on a better engine choice to come this year, mine was really bad lots of issues I had to fix and still a couple needing attention. Complete repaint as well which is the biggest hurdle, here is my build thread

1/6 Scale F-18 Build
Hey Fender. Yea I have followed your thread. The first 18 that the owner had (Andrew, he has commented and posted on the various threads) sat in limbo for 1.5 to 2 years before it was really ready to fly. took quite a bit of work. From a flying perspective this one seems better than the last as there is less bugs and work arounds to deal with. Finish wise it's so so.

These pics are from the new wings. Video explains things but 1 of 3 covers match up.
New covers for ailerons are narrower than the previous model. Could be difference between hornet and D F-18 models.

Here are some pictures from the previous F-18 wings after I corrected them. I'm putting these here just for reference as I show them and talk about them in the video.
- Primary flap servo arm length for internal linkage. Center to Center is 12mm. Any longer and it will rub top skin.
- See diagram for the carbon actuating arm. Fairly self explanatory.

Overview of previous F-18 Wing. Aileron cover is much wider on the previous build.

Primary Flap Carbon actuating arm dimensions.

Jonathan,

It looks like your previous wings are from a F-18 E,F super hornet. Your new wings you have are from the C,D Legacy Hornet. If you look at your LE Flap they are different. That would also be why your hinge covers are wider on the previous wing.

Thanks Marvin.
Yea that makes sense.
Here are some pics of the final dimensions after redoing the carbon arm on the Aile/Flap.
Some pictures of the Aileron Linkage setup.

I think you would have benefited a lot by putting a reaaally short servo arm for the flaps and installing the pushrod pushing through the trailing edge of the wing. That way you would have gotten a full movement range for the servo and mechanical lock for down or up , depending how much your servo´s angle range is.

Now you get 30 degrees out of your servo movement and also a long arm--> much more force needed.

I have done a couple of wings that way. Harder to setup but..
