RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

It's 5° per wing panel - almost twice what it comes with.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Leroy if I might make a suggestion, your exhaust shrouds should be parallel to the lower cowl with their lower edge laying on the seam. They'll look more to scale that way.

You might like to...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Don and Zeeb:

I appreciate both your replies and concur (I was planning to try the drilling with a carbide bit btw). But after thinking about it, drilling is too expensive and would just drive...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Thanks.

Unfortunately I've already looked at all of those sources and none appear carry a full range of drilled socket head bolts, expecially in the longer lengths I need. I've spent a couple...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

For those of you who are going to - or may be considering - using the Evolution 58cc engine, here are a couple of pictures of an installation using the new mount. The installation was done by Tom...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Todd, I wish I could say.

The fabricator has other committments in addition to my project. And the holiday season will be here soon. So I don't have a clear idea as to when the new molds...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

The TF cowl has been delayed so long I can't remember when it was started! The last delay this year was the result of a medical problem which created a toxic reaction to resins that has not gone...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

I'm almost ready to market a line of motor mounts that are for the Top Flite GS Mustang as well as other planes. I have a prototype Evolution / MVVS 58cc that I should have pictures for in a few of...

Oops, I should have included that. RCSB is R/C Scale Builder. It's at:

You have to register to use it and some functions are disabled unless you make a donation to...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

"Miss Ethell" was built by Matt Lupri and is a Comp-Arf kit. I believe the plane in the background is Matt's "Miss Prudence" which is a Ziroli kit.

Miss Prudence was very badly damaged early on...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

The motor mount that VanIsle Flyer has is a prototype. He was willing to help optomize the design which I really appreciated. If there is sufficient interest in it I'll assemble a few kits. Since...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Karl,

I can't help you on the gear doors (yet), but I can provide you with a very realistic exhaust kit, air filter covers and a stab relocation it. There are lots of pictures in the Gallery...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

You're lucky to have access to so many great old aircraft.

I live near Paine Field in Everett, WA (Boeing assembles their airliners there). That's where the Flying Heritage Collection is also...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Thanks for the compliments Tom. You're right, the resin wouldn't take the heat if they were functional.

There seem to be a couple of issues to overcome with functional exhausts on the...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

3/8" OD is the closest common size to scale. That's what is used in my Mustang exhaust kits for the Top Flite GS.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Speedy

I wonder if the wing failure problems - if there is a problem - might be indirectly caused by the weak shear webs in the landing gear mount area. Here's a link to an explanation if you...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

That's right.

The radius appears to be constant all along the top profile line. Think of it as being like a piece of paper folded into a long two sided triangle. The base and the...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Good points for improving the looks of the Top Flite GS Mustang. There are several other areas that could be improved, but they start coming at increasing less benefit and more work. Except one...
