1st, double check the batt for a good charge. It should show 12 volts +. You said he was pushing down hard. I believe there is an adjustment as to when power is applied when you push down. It's been...

Chrome top is a fairly decent box. I think I'd try and find the problem with it before buying another. Could be as simple as a switch.
