Loyal Hanna Dockyard Company has a solution to the varying shaft sizes. The solution they sell is a "universal" universal joint which is quite unique.

I tried re drilling brass universal joints...

My Cranberry Isle Lobster yacht (pix with blue/green hull) is powered by a 12 volt motor from my wife's disgarded cordless broom!!!

The other photo I saw, of the same boat in white, sold on Ebay...
