RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Jeff,

The vent line can actually be run pretty much anywhere that is convenient for you. I just bring mine down the firewall and have it exit the bottom of the cowling by making a elbo brace...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hey Flyer,

I'm fairly certain you don't need to pressurize your tank for the DL50. Gasoline engines use carbs that pump the gas into the engine rather than depending on pressure build up in the...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hawkflyer,

If the DA50 is like the DL50, you will need the 5mm 0.8 XXL from Dave Brown's site. I had the same problem and e-mailed him to find out what I needed.
Hope this helps.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Brian,

I'm using a 1-1/4" prop extension from Sierra Precision. This allowed me to push my engine back closer to the firewall where the cowl is slightly larger. I'm still going to have to cut a...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Any details on space requirements for the jtec? Specifically between the firewall and cylender.

Thanks,
Russ

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Vanisle Flyer,

I don't have pictures available but I'll try to answer your questions in regard to West Systems epoxy.
You should not have to thin this resin. I'm using 105 epoxy and 205...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Tom,

You asked what engine I'm using, forgot to mention that.

I'm using the DL-50 for this plane. So far the fit seems good and everyone says it performs well in this plane.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Tom,

I haven't found the posting that I was looking for, but if you mean what technique is used I can recap that. Basically, from what I've seen, taking a brass tube that closely approximates...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi all,

I know this has popped up somewhere before, but I'm not having much luck finding it again. I'm working on making a rivet tool for this plane and I need to know what size rivet heads I...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Jbarnes,

Did you push your engine out forward or did you use a prop extension? I decided to go with a 1 1/4" prop extension so that I could put the motor closer to the firewall (thus further...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Dragonfly,

I'm sure most of us can relate. It's a bummer to get started on a nice plane and have to drop it for such unimportant things as work and family (kidding).
It seems hard to get...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

I can't think of a good reason right now why you couldn't do the flaps first. Be careful with the rear partial ribs you had to put in and get spaced correctly. With the outer flap ribs no longer...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi LL999,

I just went ahead and followed the directions and let it sit on the edge of the center skin but meet at the edge for the wing panel skins. It looks basically like an A (only less pitch...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Mark,

I'm still weighing my options on this one. Part of me wants to build my own functional exhaust similar to the Keleo but I'm not sure if my metal working skills are up to that or not.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi all,

I'm looking for some tips on using the Dynamic Balsa cockpit kit with my TF p-51 kit. I'm at the point where I'm starting to work with some of the pieces and I have realized that...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Tom,

I would love to do this as well. I've actually purchased some 3/8" tubing and fittings to give this a try. I'm sure I can get the upper portion of the exhaust done without an issue but...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. I took a look at your engine setup. As expected, the head on the 62 is a bit wider than the 50. I'm not sure if I'd be able to get by without cutting anything away...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi all,

I'm thinking of going with either the Slimline or JTec rear pitts muffler (for the DL-50) but I'm wondering which one would be conceled in the cowl more? I'm really only wondering about...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Tom,

Now that I see how my previous post came out, the drawing is completely useless. :) Hopefully others will pick up on what I was trying to say.

I also thought about using flat stock...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Tony, Tom,

Yes the challenge for me is going to be exactly that.. to make it functional but keep it inside so that I don't have to rip up the cowl as much. It looks like Keleo's solution for...

Tony,

They look great on your kits.. 3/8" seems to be the perfect size.

Thanks,

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

I've considered the copper solution as well. I had some left over copper tubing from some plumbing work I recently had to do (1/2" inch) and tried a couple of things just to get a visual of it. The...

Any info on the engine questions as it relates to the TF P51 would be appreciated though.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi everyone,

I am currently building a TF GS P-51 and have purchased a DL50 for the plane. I've read through the TF P51 threads and there are others using it but there are some details for usage...
