OH it will fly but the question is .. how well? You may need flaps for take offs. Probably will be fast on landings. Heavy planes have a lot of inertia and don't like to slow down.
Just take it...

Top flite p51.

That's not the best way to hinge a P51 flap although it will work. Is the flap really skinny at the leading edge? I recall from the one I built years ago it wasn't.
The flap hinge (robart) should...

Put a pilot in and then use canopy glue to attach the canopy. I use masking tape to protect the area under the canopy.
When you add the glue to the canopy base use masking tape to hold the canopy...

Eric,
I built this kit years ago. Let me say that the front of the TF kit is really messed up. I mean REALLY messed up. It no way resembles the full size plane at all.
I ended up redrawing the nose...

Dave,
long time since I built the kit so I don't recall.. But yes trim the sheets so they fit as best as you can.
you'll need to do that for the tops and bottoms.
the GOOD thing about a wood kit...

Not a big deal. Just be careful that your wing doesn't develop a warp while sheeting. Make sure your wing is as it should be during that process.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

I have a G-45 in mine and it didn't need any additional weight. Your engine is lighter so you may need some nose weight.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Use any of the iron on fabrics, coverite, solortex, life fab etc. Really makes no difference so long as its fabric. Sig Koverall works well too you just need to add the adhesive to the wood parts...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Don't be concerned about the weight.. 19lbs is nothing for this plane! It has PLENTY of lift and wing area. This plane can fly a considerably heavier weight and still have great flight performance.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

I would say the TF P51 is an excellent flyer. No bad vises that I know of. Reinforce the retract area and you'll be fine..

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

For what it's worth I've been using the stock cowl part for at least 6 years and it's still working ok. You can reinforce it with fiberglass and resin on the inside.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Michel since you haven't started your kit yet I would suggest you reshape the front end of the fuse to get rid of that terrible looking nose. The biggest out of scale problem with the TF P-51 is in...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

The TF Mustag will carry a lot of weight and still fly well IMHO. Mine's powered with a G-45 and scoots right along. I didn't glass my plane because I wanted something that I could fly and repair...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

I built one several years ago and I still fly it with a G 45.. It is really a nice flying plane.. I didnt use the robart tail wheel.. its just wrong.. Instead I used a B&D nose unit and had it rotate...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
