RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

What version did you get? ARF or Kit? There are alot of differences between the two. The canopies is just one of the things different. They are different lengths.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi Kirt,
I used a 1/4 inch thick maple rib doubler. I made a rib that looked like W-4Z and W-5Z. I think those are the part numbers. They are the rib doublers that face each other for rib W-4 and...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Kirtsm,

Don't really need to reinforce the plane too much. I have had no issues at all with the overall structure of the kit. Only the landing gear mounts are terrible on the kit. I completely...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

kirtsm,
Just one thing to keep in mind. Be conscious of weight. Under 24 lbs good over 24 lbs not so good. I have found, that the plane will fly at over 24 lbs but under 24 lbs should be your...

Hi Doug,
I have a number of posts on this thread. I address the ducting in post 1458. I recommend starting at post 1454 though. Hope it helps. I really like my Revo engine.

Oh man, I just...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Just completed my second season on the Top Flite P-51. Here are some pictures. Flys GREAT. Revo 52 Engine still awsome. It has been clocked on radar at 114mph straight and level.

Hope you like,...

Paul, Here are some pictures of what I mean.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Paul,
It is already clear coated. You must clear coat. Model Master is not fuel proof. I used Minwax Polycrylic Semi Gloss in this case. Using Gloss is way too shiny. It is a water based...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Tom,
That is a lot of motor for either one of these P-51s, in my opinion. Too much. To big also. Will stick out alot. I have seen that engine pull a big 102 inch Bud Nosen P-51. Big engine on glow...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Doug,
The oil cooler does not need to be functional. The way it's designed, air will exit through it open and closed. Notice that when the real one is closed, there is still an opening. It is...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Doug,
The Revolution engine is a great engine. I would not give it a second thought. Trust me on this, ducting works. It's also not hard to do. I am helping a friend of mine build the exact same...

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build

Hi again,
The plane weighs in at about 23.5 lbs. If I were to build another one, I know that I could get the weight down to right around 22 lbs. The wood in the kit is a bit on the heavy side. I...
