The plug needs to go the correct way round in the Cortex. Keep everything away from the signal pin as if that gets grounded then the Cortex goes into setup mode.

I have asked Jeti about this. They have said that you should use the magnetic switch or the RC Switch. Surprisingly they don't make or sell a mechanical switch but, as stated above, you could use one...
