I agree, but on a jet it would lock up and just slide. You'd lose directional control etc. and it would be ineffective. Not to mention that I've never seen a pneumatic or electric nose wheel only brake system. I have seen a servo operated 'drag brake' on a shockjet. it was a metal tab that when activated applied pressure to the tread of the wheel to slow its rotation. It was as ineffective as you would imagine.

Just a couple of queries, what is the minimum thrust tube ID and length needed for k45 please?

Also what is the correct spacing from the exit lip of the turbine nozzle to the start of the thrust tube (not including the bell mouth on the tube).

Thanks
Andy

I can answer part of your question regarding the distance from the turbine to the start of the thrust tube. That distance is 1" exactly. I purchased my pipe from Peter Liu and actually had him extend it by 3/4" compared to what was expected from the K45G2. Granted, I do have the pipe sticking out a little bit but I like that look.

Thanks for the info... what internal diameter is your tube?

So, I'm not sure if this is a minimum, per se but, in Post #881, RCISFUN built a beautiful template for a 2D representation to get spacing done exactly right. In that version, he has the OD of the manufactured part as 2.12" or 53.8mm which would be the same ID as the tube. That was a perfect fit for my tube from Peter. So, we're going to go with that as the answer.

This is directly from the Xicoy X-45 manual
Minimum exhaust tube diameter 45-50mm / 1.8-2”

I could not locate any data from the Kintech manuals ... but I have to imagine it would be the same....

Not sure why there is a range on a minimum dimension in the Xicoy manual, to me minimum is minimum period, not a range....

I was thinking of trying the X45 with the Sebart double walled pipe, which measured about 46mm ID. It sounds like it is on the smaller range of the recommended diameter, and that does worry me a bit.

If liquid smoke it's another tank, another vent, another fill, a pump, power for the pump, an rx channel, smoke stick, plumbing.
Where exactly is all that going to go in one of these?

FWIW, smoke is really cool, but it makes a mess and adds bucks to each flight. The biggest issue is the space and the added weight.

I've got my 50mm thrust tube and the k45g3 fitted with the thrust tube 10mm in from the rear of the fuse and the tube outer case, and 25mm clearance between the motor nozzle and the tube...

It's pretty obvious, its tapered, just slide it in till it stops.

The back of the tank nearly butts up against the front of the turbine, i've heard some fussing about this but it has no effect.

you misunderstand, I'm looking for layout inspiration of all the components up front... not the tank lol...

Has everyone changed the ball links? Or has there been any failures from the supplied ball links?

I maidened mine last Sunday. That residual thrust at idle is going to take some getting used to! I had three flights that all went well. Starting the engine for the fourth flight, the start sequence hung up at the 32000rpm mark and resulted in too much fuel going into the engine. Fire in the tailpipe! Outer wall was absolutely destroyed. Fuse got really hot and had a lot of paint blisters. Then, the most remarkable thing happened! As things cooled down, the blisters went away! You can't tell they were ever there!

A friend was able to replace the outer wall of the pipe. Inner stainless pipe was still in good shape with no distortion or wrinkling. Pipe looks just like new now.

Ran the engine again but this time outside the plane. Same result. What a blowtorch! My flying buddy got on the phone with Barry and went through the settings in the ECU. Changing the pump value from 06 to 04 solved the issue. everything now re-installed and ready for the next trip to the field.

gee thanks bud, LOL.
You know these planes are tiny right? those things that make it 'neat' add weight and usually make it no fun to work on when you need to.
But what would I know. Good luck, just keep it light

Actually I've found that a neat and organized install doesn't add any weight and actually makes things easier to work on when you need to. If you're talking about adding things that are "neat" as in cool, that's another story, but tidy and well organized doesn't cost anything other than a bit of time.

cause zipties, wire loom, heat shrink, velcro, and wire keepers are made of helium.
I let a buddy 'help me out' in rigging servos in a 60lb warbird. Zipties every 6 inches. Was it neat, yes, was it tidy, yes...but over 4 foot of extension length could you trace that?- heck no. Point is there is overkill in every application as well as an appropriate amount. airplanes over 12lb, sure I am all in. small planes like this. grams add up.

I was just offended that my install was considered untidy. You should have seen it when I got it. Whatever.

For what it's worth, I agree that you don't need bling and fancy wire looms to have a neat serviceable install. Simple, untangled wiring that is routed neatly and easy to trace is plenty good enough.

I didn't make the connection that it was your plane when I referred to post #992 to as an example of equipment placement with a Kingtech. I wouldn't have used it as an example if I thought there was anything wrong with it.
