Greetings to all fellow Captains And special thanks to Dauntless fan and rbublaugh for there kind comments to my still not finished version of the Dauntless.Since my last photos I have been busy with more detailing work and in the process of installing lighting also I now have a canopy over the wheel house deck and also have made a better stand to replace the temporary one I made. Here comes the crunch. I have taken liberty's with the design in the first instance I decided to plank my decks instead of painting them I know The original Dauntless did not have that. Nor did she have the same navigation lights I have on my version. The little row boat that came in the kit I hated it reminding me of a bath tub ,so I replaced that with a RIB.Now I have been at it again I decided my Dauntless should have a swim platform on her Transom perhaps just for the hell of it and thinking it would look nice? I am uncertain if the Dauntless ever had this feature ? Archives of the original are very few far and between and in her life it appears she had at least a few re fits .For example The Dauntless did not always have an enclosed wheel house.On this site I did notice in a poor and old pic of her stern when she was painted white and nothing more than a wreak of what appears to be remains of the supports that could possibly have been a swim platform? I have found no other images to confirm this So I could be completely wrong? None the less my Dauntless Now has a swim platform, And I like it ! Anyway externally My Dauntless is more or less done .I still have to finish the electrical system RC battery's wiring unfortunately I have a delay as I have nowhere to float my model to determine where in the hull is the best place to install the battery's so she sits correctly in the water. Probably have to buy an inflatable kids pool just to do the job or something similar? So I am now hunting the net and EBAY to see what I can come up with as cheaply as possible as It will only ever be used once. Perhaps with luck I will be completely finished by next summer . By the way the red leather Mini skirt looks better on my Dauntless seats than as a girls Mini skirt!I will of course be adding some more Pics some time soon

Merry Christmas to all fellow Dauntless captains Here is an updated photo .currently I am working on the boats lighting I am not far from been finished on this project .I have taken some liberty's with my Dauntless Note the swim platform? Also I decided to fit blinds to the cabin windows just for the hell of it Hope some may approve?

Boat looks good and, as for the swim platform, I don't know of anyplace that says you have to build the boat strictly to scale.
As far as being a Star Trek fan, that shot was from Deep Space Nine since it shows "Commander" Kira Nerys and Keiko O'Brien from the last season of the show. Kira was commissioned into Star Fleet during the last season as a commander while still holding her rank as Lt Colonel in the Bajoran Militia.

Wow Darron! You should be proud, the boat looks absolutely gorgeous! I love the smooth gloss paint and varnish finishes.

I agree with Hydro - all the additions you've included really look sharp. The blue wheelhouse shelter really fits.

As we've all discovered, different owners added their personal touches throughout the yacht's life. The designer's drawings for the interior envisioned blinds in the main salon. I think they look classier than curtains. And as you stated, the hardware for a swim platform was visible on the transom in the pics of the boat's last days.

Are those blinds made from styrene strips?

Hi Captains .In reply to a question from Dauntless fan. You are correct I did use Styrene to make my window blinds. Also my window frames and the window glass itself are all made from Styrene. As is many other parts like my seating frames I also laminated the inside of my wheel house with it as well as the the stern well Anywhere where access was difficult to prepare for painting I find it a very good materiel to use for modelling even the frame for my swim platform is made from Styrene except for the planking of course, that's a red hardwood. Most of my Styrene is from evergreen scale models however here in Spain been an American import the prices are a bit silly here For cementing Styrene to styrene I use Revell liquid plastic cement witch more welds your work together as opposed to actually sticking pieces together however to laminate Styrene to wood That is a little more difficult I tried several methods until I found using super glue Gel the best way to do this, and found lightly scrubbing the Styrene surface with sandpaper made for a very strong bond on a test piece I could not separate the styrene from the wood without destroying it . By the way liquid super glue dose not work the wood just sucks up the superglue it has to be the Gel if you want to try this yourself s? anybody out there that knows a better way to bond styrene to timber I'm all ears so do please let me know .Thanks also for the kind comments regards to blue wheel house cover Actually Yes its again sheeted with styrene but it was not my initial plan. my first attempt was to be honest a complete disaster. I wanted to use a fabric to simulate canvas try as I might I could not get it looking right and learned I am useless with a needle and thread. In the end out came some very thin .5 mm styrene sheet. and to try to make it look like canvas I used a latex paint and applied it with a sponge household radiator roller thinking that would give it some texture? It did not quite come out as I intended but I think passable? if you could have seen my attempt at covering it with fabric you all would have fallen over with laughing Loll

My Dauntless floats! I have had her in the water in order to displace my battery's so she sits correctly in the water. I have used 2 12volt 7amp hour gel battery's and they are heavy. My Dauntless with everything installed makes for one heavy boat. One would think she would not float at all? But she sits exactly where she supposed to in the water .with my battery's displaced in the hull as in the photo there is no additional Ballast added with the weight of the battery's there is no need for it.

Let there be light With exception to the navigation lights and spot light with are 12 volt grains of wheat bulbs found on Ebay. the rest of the lighting is automotive 12 volt LEDS that are in waterproof rubber self adhesive strips you can cut to length

Dear Dauntless fans. My Model of the Dauntless is getting near to the end .I may fit a few more bits and pieces? But to all intents she is about finished I would like to express my gratitude to all the Dauntless captains here on this forum, there own posts have been a wonderful source of information and a lot of great ideas which I have found invaluable helping me greatly in the building of my own project. Let me start by saying the boat looks fantastic. That said, let me remind you of the three basic rules of building a model:
1) Even when you think it's done, it never is
2) There is always something you will find that needs improving
3) If you see someone else's boat that has something different that you like, you will almost always have to try to add it to your boat

Amazing! Lighting is spot on. Lazarette details are excellent. Canvas texture looks really good. Love the boarding ladder aft.

For hobbiests who desire a neat an tidy engine room, your boat is a dream. Well done.

When I want long run times at medium speed, I use the same SLA "brick" batteries in that exact position. In that setup I have sailed for many hours without depleting the batteries below 50%.

I'm guessing that's high density foam lining the hull?

Is that a battery charging jack towards the bow (following the blue and black wires forward)?

What are those tidy plastic fittings for the water cooling?

Can you add some pics of how the water from the cooling system exits the boat?

Merry Christmas by the way. I am responding to try and answer some of your questions for you first of all The foam I used I came across at work it was protective prepackaging in some equipment that had arrived Its not polystyrene you know the stuff that breaks up in to little tiny pieces and gets allover the place This I found this stuff practically indestructible and super light and although it looks like sponge it is not hygroscopic in any way. I used it for its buoyancy property's ,In the hopes that if for some reason I have a disaster one day That it might help to keep it afloat long enough to salvage her ,not like the Titanic lost to the depths forever. of course I do not intend to test this out .,Its only a hope for the best.With regards to the charging jack you have noticed you are correct it will be used for that also ;but it is also a 12volt power supply for my lighting. My superstructure lifts off the hull in one piece and the electrics for the lighting is all fitted in the superstructure so I have a jack plug I simply plug in when fitting the superstructure to the hull. The connections and tubing I used for my cooling system are actually pneumatic connections as is the tubing but been made of plastic I could not see no reasons for not using it for my additional water cooling my boat if only for the motive it cost me nothing to obtain this as We use these it in abundance at my work. This tubing comes in a multitude of sizes as dose the fittings for your interest here are some more links for you as many modelers do use it. By the way the fitting are a one way push fit but are removable they can take a lot of pressure It depends on the the sizes of tubing you use? but even the thinnest 4mm can take 10 bar or 145psi.with no problem at all since my water cooling is nowhere near anything like that I have no fears of it been a problem with water?Another Blogger Blog: Industrial Pneumatic and Vacuum Plumbing 101

My motors Note are already fan cooled.Also note I have re enforced my keel by fitting a keel-son 10 by 10 mm hardwood for additional strength more strengthening modifications I also made to the hulls framework

Here is a pic of me testing my motors to see how many amps they draw. note the amps shown is with both motors running flat out and under load to the point of near stalling ,so the amps you can see been drawn is the most I can force them to draw ER I hope that makes sense? I am happy with that as my speed controllers are rated a hell of a lot more
